“Better Together” launched at Kurukshetra-21st Dec 2010

The journey to bring Police and Public together began at Kurukshetra from Maharana Pratap Public School with front line police officers of Police Station city kurukshetra and the Bar association members. The overwhelming response from district Police chief and the School principal Mrs.Annie Philip gave it further impetus.

Sub Inspector Satish Kumar and HC Darshan Singh from Haryana Police, Advocate Trilochan Singh from District Bar Association Kurukshetra along with Team Nishan addressed the youth

The inspiring response from School Principal of Maharana Pratap Public School and the swiftness of action in organizing the presentation on “Better Together” was testimony to the pursuance of ideals & values of legendary warrior in whose name this school stands. At the end of presentation every one from Team Nishan was spell bound by the levels of awareness that the children had on the issues of corruption affecting the country today. The most common question asked by the students to the police officers was about the “Prevalent corruption”.

Students were quite vocal on the issue police officers always shielding the rich and powerful with grave injustices to the poor. The most common question was ‘Why the cops, let off the violators of traffic rules, when instructed by top officials over mobile phones’. The message coming from student fraternity was loud and clear ” The cops need to be firm in dealing with traffic violations and no interference from top should be brooked”.

Why forensic expertise can’t be put to use by police in nailing the criminals was another interesting question, highlighting the need towards modernisation and performance in crime detection.

Another serious issue from common perception that emerged from the questions was about the delay in judicial process in dispensation of justice and the delaytory tactics of denying the justice through inordinate delays caused by the stalling of proceedings on flimsy grounds and the role of judiciary. The levels of corruption in judiciary can be well understood from the fact that most of the questions asked by the children were on the issue of injustice to poor due to corruption.
