"Better Together" New Begining with Delhi Police
Team Nishan held consultations with front line Police officers of Delhi Police at Lodhi Road Police Station & Also the Staff of Lodi Road Air Force Bal Bharti School on 16th November 2010 and got overwhelming response from the Police Officers and the School Principal Mr.Anand Swaroop for the launch of "Better Together" initiative as part of the launch of PRPP Campaign in the state of Delhi.

Inspector Rajinder Singh, SHO Lodhi Road Police Station seemed to be no stranger to the exceptional occurances of winning awards and making firsts with new initiatives.
M.A. in History with 25 years of meritorious service, the ease and confidence that emanated from his responses to various questions being put forward by members of Team Nishan, reflected nothing but skillfull professionalism full of pragmatism that we never saw even in some of the senior IPS officers during our consultations.
Gallantry awardee of 1995 who earned out of turn promotion to the rank of Inspector, He was not knowing that he was on a journey to craete history in the history of Policing in India. The Police in India that had kept its functioning insulated from public for centuries was about to take its giant step of bringing public close to Police by launching of "Better Together" initiative that is part of PRPP Campaign.
"Better Together" initiative is dedicated to generate awareness among youth of the nation about Police in democracy, its role, dynamics of its service delivery to the citizens in distress and mechanism of its functioning in local police. Objective is to bring local police officers, NGOs community leaders & members of local Bar associations together in this initiative and generate awareness among youth and citizens about the role of police and Rights of citizens and the limitations and challenges of police in accordance to the local circumstances.
We are sure this activity and its replication in rest of the states will lead to creation of strong alliances between the police, academic institutions & the local NGO community and the initiative will succeed in bringing Public & Police together and lead to paradigm shift in the attitude towards police and generate trust among this relationship that is foundation of successful policing in any vibrant democracy.
As part of initiative a Team comprising of police officers of local Police Station, one from each rank that comes in frequent contact with public(Constable, Head Constable, Sub Inspector) & a lawyer from the local Bar association and the members of Team Nishan/NGO representatives will address the youth in local schools on Police its role and how to avail its support in distress, human rights & redressal mechanics for grievances of victims and questions by the students.
Team comprising of Sub Inspector Pawan Tomar, V.P.Yadav, Aridaman Jit Singh, Federica D'Alssendra & Susana Costa visited Air Force Bal Bharti School at Lodhi Road and briefed the school Principal Mr.Anand Swaroop on "Better Together" initiatve and got an overwhelming response to arrange the first presentation in the capital city at their school and create history.
This initiative is part of "Police Reforms Peoples' Perspective" Campaign(PRPP) of Team Nishan being launched in the states of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab & Himachal Pradesh. PRPP campaign is dedicated to ensure proactive participation of citizenry and its elected representatives into a very direct vigilant role of monitoring limitations & challenges of local police and enable it become performance oriented to serve & protect the Public that is real master of this largest democracy of the world.
