Former Cop prefers to sell melons to make living by honest means-colonial legacy of corruption by top cops takes its toll on subordinates(Punjab Police)
Ex-S.I.Kanwal jit singh of Punjab police from Kakra kalan village in Nakodar subdivision has preferred to sell melons than facing humiliations due to the corrupt management of Top Cops of Punjab Police. Colonial legacy of Indian Police System has given more trouble to India than the service to its citizens.
The Team Nishan began working on Police issues in India from January 2007 and addressed the Director Generals of Police from all the 28 state and 7 union territories and CPOs of India. Their cooperation was sought to nominate one police officer from each state to act as Point of Contact for information sharing on the "Unsung Heroes Campaign" that is dedicated to the martyrs of respective police forces/CPOs and also on campaign to highlight police professionalism.
The fastest response that was received within a fortnight had come from the office of DGP Punjab Police(Mr.R.S.Gill,IPS) and the best response that was received on this initiative was received from The DGP of Nagaland Police (Mr.J.Changkija,IPS).
DGP Offices from the state police organizations of West Bengal Police, Tamil Nadu Police, Himachal Police, Maharastra Police were also equally prompt in responding. Our analysis of this response system and a cursory glance through the profiles of the than DGs of respective states revelaled that where ever the incumbent enjoyed the reputation of being honest and upright and hard working the response from those police forces was very quick and rest can be any one's guess. Every organization and its offices adopt the work culture emanating from the personalities of persons who occupy those offices. The DGP office of state police of Chattisgarh instead of sharing its information on the police martyrs and its achievements with "Nishan" ,wrote to the Intelligence Bureau to under take investigations on the credentials of the organization, it is past 3 years and we are yet to receive any information from DGP office of chattisgarh and the incumbent remains in the news for all the wrong reasons.
The recent comments of DGP Chattisgarh on the heavy casualities suffered by CRPF speak volumes to the professionalism of the officer. all these casualities are nothing but attributable to the lack of practical experience of the profession and incompetence that lead to lack of perspective on opeartional deployment in Counter insurgency operations. common man can draw the deductions that how top leadership can make or mar the performance of organiztions and victimize the people.
The Indian Police Service leadership in India suffers from the same infirmities that it suffered from in 1902 and the results are visible in the form of erosion of trust of the people on elected governments and birth of extra constitutional mechanisms to seek justice. The instant case of S.I.Kanwal jit singh who now sells mellons to make a living is testimony to the mismanagement and corruption that has afflicted the state police organizations around the country. S.I.Kanwaljit Singh has joined PRPP Campaign to reform the sick state of Punjab Police, lest people of Punjab and fraternity of front line police officers keep suffering injustices.
