PRPP-PP Campaign and Police Station Nakodar,The silver lining-09th Feb 2010

To kickstart the PRPP-PP Campaign in the state of Punjab, Team Nishan visited Nakodar in Jullunder district of Punjab from where two front line police officers submitted conditional resignations against the corruption and nepotism being perpetrated by Indian Police Service leadership.

On 9th Feb,Tuesday 2010, Team Nishan visited Police Station Nakodar and got very inspiring response from the front line police officers posted at the police station, with regards to campaign to bring public and police together to build up confidence and trust, that remain corner stone of the most affective policing in any democracy. The outright views expressed by the SHO Sub Inspector Surinder Pal Singh to familiarise the Team Nishan with its day to day working reflected upon the professional competence and trust his police team enjoys with the public. The Team Nishan will launch the PRPP-PP campaign from this very police station in Punjab. “Nakodar” true to its meaning of Neki Dar from Persian language that means”Gate to goodness”  has made history by being part of campaign that is dedicated to catalyze active participation of public and its elected representatives into a very direct vigilant role to monitor the limitations and challenges of prevailing police system and citizens’ expectations.

To begin with Team Nishan had consultation with all the frontline police officers posted with Nakodar Police Station. Two Head Constables were very forthright in their views on interference from supervisory officers that proves an impediment in their performance and have demoraliging affect on them. All the administrative orders/instructions that govern the working of police are found to be outdated and with existing allowances, it was not possible for frontline police officers to perform efficiently and without compromising. It appeared that supervisory administrative authorities neither consult nor work out financial budgets in accordance to operational requirements of the police stations.
