silver lining in black clouds- Police Station Ding attains ISO standardiztaions in service delivery to citizens-30 June 2010(Haryana Police)

28th March 2010 will remain a golden day in the history of Police in India, This is the day when Police opened up its gates for the public to come and share the ideas on working of their Police station, The police that had kept its functioning insulated and shrouded with mysteries for centuries, finally took its first step of responsibilty towards transparency that is foundation of trust. Hard work of IG Hissar range and his staff achieve ISO standardization in service delivery to its citizens in six of its Police Stations.

“Police is the biggest organized gang of criminals” this comment of Justice A.N.Mullah  of 1950s was brought to life by recent acts of Top cops of Haryana Police but voluntary group of Team Nishan that had been working on Police Reforms from Peoples’ Perspective campaign dedicated to democratization of Police had very pleasant surprise in Sirsa and saw the exceptional silver lining in working of same Haryana Police.Ding572

E.Sub Inspector Dharamvir  and his team of Police Station Ding in Sirsa district while working under the direction of Mr.A.K.Dhul, I.P.S.  IGP Hissar Range to modernize their police station to meet the ISO standards, had never realized while striving for these changes that they were on a journey to create history by regaining the trust of public.

When invitation was extended to Mr.Aridaman Jit Singh of Team Nishan by a telephone call from Police station Ding to come & visit Police station was probably spirit of transparency in celebration of true democracy far from black colonial past of secrecy and mystery that always shrouded every police action of the past.

There is a series of firsts that have been introduced at this police station and will go a long way in winning the trust of people with performance oriented policing. A series of firsts, whether, it is issuing receipt of the every complaint being received at police station or the time frame to deal with complaints, formation of citizens committees to act as interface between Police and Public in case of non cognizable cases, arranging neat and shaded comfortable place for the visitors from public, each of these steps reflect a paradigm shift in police attitude towards public and brings public and police together and lead to transparency and accountability.

We got invaluable inputs from each police officer present at the police station with regard to the issues of accountability and performances.
