Human Rights activists celebrated 60th year of Universal Declaration of Human Rights at village Bairsal in Haryana.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty International organized a series of Fire Up events around the world, mobilizing its 2.2 million members to recognize the historic moment when world leaders committed themselves to supporting and promoting human rights.
From Bangladesh to Burkina faso, Australia to Austria and Paraguay to the Phillippines, thousands of people in 27 countries with over 100 cities and towns with over 22 lakh people took part in this historic event. In India in association with Amnesty International, Human rights organizations and its supporters celebrated the event at more then 20 locations spread across the country.
In Haryana the Fire Up event was organized at Government Primary school Play Ground at Village Bairsal that falls under the infamous police station of Butana situated 12 Kms. From Kurukshetra. About 150 Human rights activists associated with Nishan particiapted in this event from the villages of Amin, Palwal, Narkatari, Bajidpur & Kurukshetra University. The activists comprising of all age groups lighted up flames and took the pledge to defend the inalienable human rights and declared that there will be no limit to their resolve to protect the rights of the vulnerable groups and pursue the perpetrators of the Human Rights violations with legal consequences. Haryana is that peaceful state that has taken initiative on police reforms and implemented much touted new police act but there are rampant human rights violations in the state extending from custodial deaths, rapes, fake encounters and killings of peaceful protestors with semi automatic weapons but doesn’t have a State Human Rights Commission.

Grass root level activists signed the Passport for Human Rights as a way to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
